''Show Dem Camp (SDC)'' has released the second installment to their Palmwine Music movement and this one is dubbed Palmwine Music 2 with this project is tipped to match or surpass the success of the first installment Palmwine Music EP (Vol.1). The ''Palm Wine Music 2'' which consist of Ten (10) tracks was released on the 15th day of October, 2018. This project features various talented acts across board and it seems like it would be an interesting listen, so follow me as we continue on this joyful ride into the world of ''Palm Wine Music'' and see what ''SDC'' have in store for us on this second chapter.
Under the Influence (Intro): The duo kicked off the second chapter of the Palmwine Music vibe with the fusion of different sounds accompanied by the lush sounds of the piano and and a brief rap introduction about the trips that comes along with sipping on local brew. Under the Influence is certainly a great way to set the pace for a good listen.
Damiloun Feat. Boj & Ajebutter22: The Damiloun track is certainly a signature sound of the Palmwine Music movement and with the distinct vocals of features by Boj and Ajebutter22 can only make this record more sensational. The sounds of the Horns/trumpet fused with the strings of the guitar and the baseline of the drums makes this track an instance SDC classic. The 4:18 minute track has a great balance between SDC bars and that of the hook carried along by the two great features on the track. Thereby, making it one of the favorites off this project.
System Fail Feat. Nonso Amadi: The duo brought on one of the most influential vocalist of this present times and of course Nonso Amadi did not disappoint on this record. System Fail is a chilled - feel good song that allows SDC tell us a a nice and pretty good rap story, something like a Jay-z's Song Cry. This is one record i would love to see a nice literal interpretative visuals for a record as awesome as System Fail.
Legend Feat. Burna Boy: SDC recruits super talented act Burna Boy on this chilled/feel good vibe record dubbed Legend. Burna Boy sets the tone for the track with his distinct vocals on the chorus with all that lush sounds of the trumpet and guitar. The swag of this record is the fact that it is a bragging rights kind of song and we see both Ghost and Tec go hard on their verses making the record whole.
Tropicana Feat Flash: ''SDC'' recruits Flash who has everything fresh and exciting about his style and he definitely brought out the best in the duo's verses with how he laced his vocals on this beautifully produced record. Tropicana has all the right elements to be a radio hit if well promoted with a nice visual. This is by far the best record off this project because it has a perfect balance between Flash's new school vibe and SDC's typical conscience rap type of flow and content as well a beautifully written song. Best record off the Palmwine Music 2 project.
Ragabomi Feat. Moelogo: This is a record that features UK based Moelogo titled Ragabomi and it is everything beautiful and much more. We see how Moelogo uses the Yoruba dialect on this lush mid-tempo baseline track of the electric guitar, percussion and the trumpet. This is everything that Afrobeat and jazz is about. SDC are definitely the kings on how to accentuate the beauty of the African woman and it is shown in the lyrics of their verses. This is by far one of my favorite track off Palmwine Music 2.
For a Minute Feat. Lady Donli: This laid-back record has the eccentric Lady Donli on the chorus and she brought For a Minute to life as to what Show Dem Camp intended to achieve with the track. The duo let her own the record as we (listeners) could appreciate her vocal prowess as it glides on the rhythm of the beat and giving it all that sweetness the record deserves. Brilliant effort by SDC!
Love On The Weekends Feat. Ladipoe & Tomi Agape: Love On The Weekends is a perfect lounge record that has all that is required to give two lovers an idea to want to have a chilled weekend. This is a brilliant love record that enable couples have that alone/quality time together and with Tomi Agape on the chorus it added that mellow vibe to it and Ladipoe with the duo of SDC made this record something any ordinary person can relate with considering the content of their lyrics.
Malibu & Palmwine Feat. Worlasi: Show Dem Camp are so brilliant at bringing on the right features on every record they create and Malibu & Palmwine is no different as they feature a very distinctive vocalist in the person of Worlasi who brought a total dance vibe on this upbeat track. This track could be one of the hits off the Palmwine Music 2 if much attention and promotion is given to it.
The Garden Feat Falana: The duo SDC closes up this chapter with an amazing acoustic based record which features the soul songbird Falana and the interesting thing about this record is the fact that the record talks about the beginning of life and and all the realities humans face, which invariably means there's going to be a new chapter for the duo in their making of new ''concept projects''. The Garden is one solid record and one of the best off this project as we really see the essence and soul of SDC's creativity and style.
Here are my final thoughts on the ''Palm Wine Music 2.'' We see ''SDC'' following through on the concept as the pioneers of the Palmwine Music movement and they had some usual suspects on deck for features with a few additional elements (Acts) such as; Falana, Worlasi, Flash, Moelogo, Lady Donli, Burna Boy and Nonso Amadi. In addition, ''Boj'' ''Ajebutter22'' ''LadiPoe'' ''Tomi Thomas'' and all others added an amazing quality to the project giving it that all round Palmwine Music vibe. Therefore I would like to rate ''Palm Wine Music 2'' a 8.5/10. This is largely because the song arrangement and selections of chapter 2 was done more professionally giving listeners that all round bounce and a reason want to listen to every track and not just scheme through it.
