Ibrahim Samande Music Bio

''Ibrahim Samande is no stranger to the music scene. Born to an Architect mother and Pastor father, he started playing the piano and writing songs from the age of 10. By 12 he was playing the drums in his dad’s church, singing, playing the guitar at concerts and directing his High school choir. By 17, he recorded his first demo with Panam Percy Paul in Jos, Plateau state.

Ibrahim continued to nurture his passion for music in the US and was awarded a four-month residency at an elite artist colony on Martha’s Vineyard Island, at The Contemporary Music Center in the first quarter of 2002. There he wrote and produced an EP for which he coined the phrase Alternative Soul; a mid-tempo blend of soul, pop and alternative rock. With such catchy songs as Winter in July and Tic Tok, Ibrahim had begun to carve a niche for him self as a singer/ songwriter in the diaspora.

By the summer of that same year, Ibrahim was being booked to perform at such events as the Annual Nigerian Reunion Celebration held in Miami Florida, USA, as well as opening for Grammy award winning artist Paul, from the 70s’ band “Peter, Paul and Mary” (Puff the Magic Dragon). His Alternative Soul Ep received much critical acclaim both abroad as well as amongst the over 2million Nigerian residents in the US, earning himself the title “Mr. Winter in July”.

Ibrahim Samande, having relocated to Nigeria, is looking to cross over to a home based audience and emerge again on the international scene playing with the likes of Asa, Seal and Sade. His influences include Seal, Sting, Michael W Smith and Alanis Morissette. He currently manages a graphic design hot-shop based in Lagos, Nigeria (Yerima Design Limited), having earned the highest degree in the field, a Master of Fine Arts in Graphic Design.''
